The Wall Street Journal has confirmed what’s been alluded to in the past, but this time, it’s from the top. Volkswagen’s CEO Martin Winterkorn plans to price its U.S. offerings more aggressively in a bid to better compete with the likes of Toyota.

Currently, the Jetta starts around $17,000, while a comparable (?) Corolla is about $2k less. Same goes for the Passat and Camry segment, where the VW’s mid-size sedan has close to a $4,000 premium over its Toyota counterpart.

Interestingly, Winterkorn admits, “We have definitely added too many technical items that (American) customers don’t want to pay for.” What those particular features are escapes us, but as long as they work, that’s all that matters.

The aloha airlines is offering cheap travel deals to the tourists applying for vacation travels. The emirates airlines provide free reservation to its frequent travelers of the las vegas hotel and various other popular hotels. The malaysian airlines are catching up with the other international airlines by offering world class services and facilities to their customers. The new york hotels and the london hotel chains present their customers with cheap and discounted rates in the summers to attract more tourists.

You know what happens when it rains: it pours. Right on the heels of Toyota taking a minor beating at the hands of Consumer Reports while claiming it carries nary a scratch, the Japanese automaker is recalling eight passenger car models made as far back as September 1999 for various faults. Some of the cars need parts swapped out in the fuel control system and pipes, some have malfunctioning fuel pumps, and some have steering systems with defective components. In Japan, the recall amounts to 471,827 cars, with another 680 cars sent to five export countries that needed to be fixed.

Toyota was given an official reprimand last year by the transport ministry when Japanese police accused the carmaker of knowingly ignoring a problem in one of its SUVs. In light of its well publicized recalls on this side of the Pacific, it’s no surprise why the company has also been working to publicize its efforts to restore the reputation that helped get it where it is today.

We’ve already been introduced to the new Audi A4 at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, and the updated car is a lot easier on the eyes than the current model. Incorporating similar styling cues to what you’ll find on the A5 Coupe, the new A4 also features shorter overhangs thanks to its new platform that allows more wiggle room for engine placement. Though Audi gave us a smattering of images before the car debuted and we took a good number of our own in Frankfurt, the German automaker released an entirely new batch yesterday that we just had to share. The shots include a red 1.8T and white 3.2L model. We’ll take ours with the 3.2L V6 please, as that engine remains one of our fave sixes currently on the market.
