Thanks to JetMouse, people now can generate Garmin unlock codes with his кεygεn. However, one known limitation of the кεygεn is: the unlock codes generated for Malsingmaps do not work. This post is about a do-it-yourself patch of the кεygεn which tries to remove the limitation above. It should still work for other maps as well.

But firstly, several things are in order.
1. You should already have the latest кεygεn to work with. If not, find it by yourself. Please DO NOT ask JetMouse or me to provide you one.
2. You should follow the instructions below to patch your own кεygεn. Please DO NOT ask me for a patched кεygεn.
3. Use the patched кεygεn at your own risk. No warranty is provided.
4. You see this patch first here. Any quote or reference to this patch should give credits to PDA4x.com GPS forum.

The patch applies only to JetMouse’s кεygεn version 1.1_fixed, file size = 277504 bytes, CRC32 = 8B1A242E.

Follow these steps to do the patch.
1. Make a copy of the original garmin_kgen.exe and rename it to garmin_kgen_patched.exe.
2. Open the copied file garmin_kgen_patched.exe with a binary file editor such as UltraEdit.
3. In the editor, go to the byte offset/address ????? in hex. For example, in UltraEdit type control-G and enter 0x????? then hit OK.
4. Replace the first two bytes at byte offset/address ????? from “?? ??” to “?? ??”.
5. Next, go to the byte offset/address ????? in hex.
6. Replace the first 13 bytes at byte offset/address ????? from zeros to “?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ??”.
7. Double check the patch then save and close the file. Make sure the file size is still 277504. The new CRC32 = 303A2CD2.
8. Generate a Malsingmaps unlock code with your SD card ID and map ID ????.

That’s it. You can see the attached pictures for a “before & after” comparison of the patch. Note that this patch still has one limitation as the original unpatched version. Namely, the generated unlock codes will not work in MapSource.exe. z
